Would you feed your skin “junk food?”

Skin care products should nourish your skin, but sometimes they’re more like fast food. What will you feed your skin?

Not sure what we mean? We’ll explain…

Maybe you’ve heard about the baaaaad habit known as yo-yo dieting. Instead of focusing on changing their lifestyle to eat healthy foods and be fit, some people chase “lose weight quick” schemes by following crazy restrictive diets and taking “magic pills” that promise quick results.

Some of those products are even natural! But that doesn’t mean they’re healthy. Sometimes they’ll even get the quick weight loss they’re hoping for, but the majority of the time, it creeps right back on leaving the shortcut-taker with a slower metabolism than before.

We see a parallel in the skincare world all the time. People use product after product after product to try to get magical results. Sometimes there will be cosmetic improvements, but because they aren’t actually nourishing the skin, the results are short lived.

What do you feed your skin?

What do you feed your skin?

One member of our team puts it this way:

“Although I tried many commercial products to clear up my skin, what would happen each and every time is that it would clear up for a couple of weeks and then gradually become worse again until I was back where I started. It wasn’t until I started using oil-based skin care that my skin actually improved for good.”

There are a few reasons this happens:

Product Overload

Different products have a different pH – changing them up constantly throws your skin’s pH to jump all over the place, causing all kinds of problems from wrinkles to zits. According to New York City dermatologist Patricia Wexler, M.D.,

“The skin’s barrier, which is known as the acid mantle, is responsible for keeping in lipids and moisture while blocking germs, pollution, toxins, and bacteria. To work its best, the acid mantle should be slightly acidic, at a 5.5 pH balance. When it’s too alkaline, skin becomes dry and sensitive; you may even get eczema. You may also experience inflammation, which inhibits the skin’s ability to ward off matrix metalloproteinases [MMPs], the enzymes that destroy collagen and cause wrinkles and sagging.”

Harmful Ingredients

We’ll never understand this, but many so-called skin care products contain ingredients that are actually bad for skin! These are the ones you want to avoid.

Undernourishment

Simply put, if your body isn’t getting the nutrition it needs, it will show in your skin, hair, nails, and energy levels!

What our bodies need is actually not that complicated. We need nutrients to heal and nourish and antioxidants to protect against environmental toxins. These needs apply inside and out.
